To help deliver goods and services to the marketplace, many of our manufacturers also use third party channel partners. A channel partner is a company that partners with a manufacturer in bringing products, services or technologies to the market. Distributors are perhaps the most familiar form of channel partner; however, channel partners may also include engineering or system design houses, consultants, converters, integrators, VARs (Value Added Resellers) or even contract electronic equipment manufacturing services (CEM or EMS) partners. As the manufacturers' primary sales force, it is our role to help meet our customers' needs in the most effective and efficient ways possible by supporting and working with our channel partners where applicable.
The role of the channel partner has historically been defined by the primary service they perform. Some of these services include product stocking and distribution; modification or conversion of bulk materials into customer specific shapes and sizes; printed circuit board design and layout; electronic design; electronic manufacturing; system layout and design; system testing services; etc.
Not all manufacturers utilize channel partners; and not all products lend themselves to all, or sometimes any, of the services provided by the various types of channel partner.
